Photography Assignments
Below are 3 different photography assignments. Each one requires a minimum of 5 quality photos to get the full 50 points. It's recommended you use your phone, but you may also check out a camera, or use your own if available. You can also use Photoshop to do some basic adjustments to your photos.
Shadow Photography - 50pts
For this assignment you will focus on capturing photos with strong shadows in them. Your photos should have a striking difference between the light and dark areas. Black & White photos are best for this, but you may have to do some editing after you take your pictures.
Most phones have some basic editing capabilities, or even filters like Instagram. There are also free apps you can download for either Android or iOS to let you edit the photos. The link below has some instructions on getting B&W photos.

In addition, you can use Photoshop on a classroom computer to convert your photos to B&W. Visit this webpage to see a quick tutorial.
If your photos are not in black and white you will lose 10 points.

Tilt Shift Photography - 50pts
Tilt-shift photography is a technique that makes real objects appear small, as if they were part of a miniature scale model. A quick tilt-shift photography tutorial: start with a high quality, well-lit, in-focus photograph; take the photo from above and to the side (as if looking down upon a scale model); choose a relatively simple scene; and make sure people are small (realistic people don’t appear in models).
Some phones may have a built tilt-shift filter in their editing software. If you don't have one use this website, https://tiltshiftmaker.com/. The website is free to use, and you do not have to register.
You can also apply the tilt-shift effect using Photoshop. Follow this quick tutorial to see how.
NOTE: For this one to work you must be high enough to look down on your subject. You also need to have objects like buildings, cars or people. A photo of just trees or vegetation will not work well. This will not work if you take a picture of something right in front of you. Where are you places you can go on the island so you can look down to get a photo?
