movie Poster Redesign
For this assignment you will be re-designing a movie poster of your choice. You will be using a simplified design style similar to what you see in the samples above. Your poster must use one of the color combinations from your color chart you made.
Below are the requirements for your poster along with instructions on how to create graphics similar to what you see in the samples.
You must use a simplified color scheme using color theory.
You must turn in a JPEG of your design.
The size, color, and resolution should be the same as the settings below.
The name of the movie and credits should appear on the poster. Or the name of the movie and a release date.
The images used should symbolize something from the movie.
Save your final image as a JPEG, name it yourname_movie, and:
Yearbook Students - upload your cover to your folder on the Google Drive.
Create a new document in photoshop with the following settings.
Size = 8.5w x 11h inches
Resolution = 150
Color Mode = RGB
After making you new document create a 1/4 inch safe area using your guides.
Finding Silhouette Images
Look for silhouettes on Google. Make sure you get images that are large enough! Don't enlarge these!!
Also, don't use images with watermarks or lines through them unless you feel like removing them yourself.
Removing the Backgrounds of Silhouettes
After opening your image in Photoshop go to the Select menu at the top and choose Color Range.
Set the Fuzziness to 200, and select the black part of your image in the preview.
Click OK, and you should see a selection around your silhouette. You can now copy and paste it into your poster.
Recoloring Sihouettes
To quickly color a layer you can select the layer, then click the FX menu at the bottom of the layers menu.
Select Color Overlay from the options.
To change the color click the little colored rectangle next to blend mode.
There are other FX, like Gradient Overlay, that you might want to also use.
Isolating Areas With the Clipping Mask
To create a clipping mask make a new layer, or paste an image above the layer you want to apply the mask to.
Right-click this new layer and select Clipping Mask from the options.
The image on the left has the clipping mask applied to Layer 2.
Convert Color Photos to Simplified B&W Images
First convert your color photo to Grayscale.
Then go to the Filter menu at the top of your screen.
Choose Sharpen > Unsharp Mask
To get just a black and white image with almost no gray raise the Amount and Radius all the way up.
You can adjust the other settings to get different variations.
Click okay when finished.
Removing Images From a Photo With the Lasso Tool
Select the Magnetic Lasso Tool.
Begin drawing a line around the edge of the item you want to cut out.
To clean up any edges on your selection use the Lasso Tool.
You can add to your selection by holding Shift.
You can subtract from your selection by holding Alt.
