Animated GIF
GIF, or Graphic Interchange Format, is a file extension for an often animated raster graphics file and is the second most common image format used on the World Wide Web after JPEG. GIF images also support animation. One drawback to GIF images is that they only support up to 256 colors.
NOTE: The following video and instructions are for Photoshop CC. Some of the menus look a little different, but everything you see can still be done in Photoshop CS4.
To watch this full screen click the Youtube link on the video.
1. Open your pixel art from the previous assignment.
IMPORTANT!!
Your Layers menu should look similar to the one in the image. You should have a blank /colored background with your character on a separate layer.
If you don't have this get the teacher to help you separate your character from the background.
2. Turn on your Timeline menu.
Select Create Frame Animation.
3. Read this!!
This is your animation frame, and the little V will open up your timing menu. This lets you change the time between each frame.
This little triangle opens the menu that lets you choose how many times your animation will play. In most cases, you will set this to Forever so that it loops.
This button will duplicate the current frame. Use this to add new frames to your animation.
Click the trash icon to delete the selected frames.
4. When you're finished and ready to turn in your animation press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S to save it as a GIF.
5. Change the file type to GIF. You can also change the number of colors, but it's okay to leave it at 256.
6. Click Save, name your file with your name, and save it in your folder on the computer.
7. Now upload your file to your folder on the Google drive to turn it in.
This animation was made in Photoshop using the same method. This animation only has 12 different drawings or layers.
