Color theory

Colorize a B&W image using one of the color combinations from above.

1. Go online and do a Google search for black and white photos. You can also take your own photos and quickly convert them to B&W in Photoshop. Just go to Image>Color Mode>Grayscale.

2. Click Tools.

3. Set the size to Large.

4. When you find the image you want left-click it to open the full-size version. Then right-click and Copy image.

5. Next open Photoshop.

6. Press Ctrl+N to quickly create a new file.

7. Don't change your settings - just press OK. Your new image should be the same size as the image you just copied.

8. When your new image opens press Ctrl+V to paste your copied image in.

9. On your Layers menu click the New layer button (1), then change your blend mode (2) to Multiply. If done correctly your layers menu should be similar to the one on the left.

10. Select the brush tool from the menu.

11. Right-click on your canvas to open the brush menu. You can choose your brush type here.

Master Diameter changes the size of your brush.

Hardness can make the edges of your brush harder or softer.

12. If you're using a mouse you can adjust the opacity of your colors with this option. Lowering the number will blend the color you're using with the color underneath.

14. Draw a box around your image with the crop tool.

15. Extend the bottom of the crop box past the bottom of your image. Press enter to crop.

16. In the space you just made at the bottom of your image use the text tool to write the color combination and the colors you used.

17. Save 2 versions of your image. Save one as a PSD, and one as a JPEG.

18. Name the JPEG yourname_colors and turn it in to this folder on the Google Drive.
