BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL DOING THIS LAB!!!

You will be removing the CPU from your computer. It's very important you follow the steps carefully! The CPU can be easily damaged, is expensive to replace, and will ruin your computer if it's damaged.

If you make ONE mistake while removing the CPU you will not be allowed to work on your computer anymore.

STEP 1

  1. Unplug the fan connector from the motherboard.

  2. Turn each fastener so the arrow is pointing outward.

  3. Carefully lift each fastener until they release from the motherboard.

  4. DO NOT force them out! Gently wiggle and pull the fan until all 4 fasteners release.

STEP 2

  1. To release the lever very carefully push the lever down and out to the side.

  2. Do not touch the thermal paste on top of the CPU!

STEP 3

  1. Carefully lift the cover of the CPU socket.

  2. Grab the edges of the CPU exactly like in the picture.

  3. Slowly remove the CPU from the socket. DO NOT touch the inside of the socket or the bottom of the CPU where it connects to the socket.

  4. Place the CPU into an anti-static bag.
