Basic Photo Editing

After you've taken your pictures from the previous lesson, you're going to learn how to do some basic photo editing in Photoshop. Choose 3 photos from your 10 that have poor lighting, and follow the steps below to complete this assignment.
Open Your Image in Photoshop
1. Open Photoshop. In Photoshop go to File, then Open... Find your folder and double-click the photo you're going to edit.
2. Open Recent let's you look at a list of the previous files that were opened. Later you can use this to quickly open files you're working on.
Pictures With Bad Lighting
1. Click Image, then Adjustments, then Levels.
2. Preset - Sometimes just using a quick pre-set can be enough!
3. Adjustment Sliders - Shadows is on the left, midtones center, and lights are on the right. Slide them to change the levels in your image.
4. Output Levels - these sliders basically adjust the brightness and contrast of the entire image.

5. Once you've completed your photo edits select the Text tool from your menu. With the text tool selected click and drag to make a text box.
6. You can change the font and a few other options in the menu towards the top of your screen.
7. When you use the text tool you may notice that it created a Text layer in your layers menu.
To quickly enter the edit text mode double click on the T thumbnail on the side of the layer.
When your layers are selected they will be blue.
8. Using your text tool, write the word JPEG on one of your edited photos. Then google the definition of JPEG and add that to your text.
Saving in photoshop
When you're ready to save open the File menu. Select Save As so you can rename and choose the location where you save.
select Save a Copy from the bottom left menu.
Where it says Save as type choose JPEG.
Name this one yourname_photo1
Click Save and save it in your folder on your computer. Don't save it in the Adobe Cloud!
Now take your 2nd photo.
Add the word PNG along with the definition of PNG.
Save this one as a PNG, and name it yourname_photo2
Now take your 3rd photo.
Add the word GIF along with the definition of GIF.
Save this one as a GIF, and name it yourname_photo3.
