Logo Design - sketches

Logo design is the culmination of all the elements of design. A simple and effective design can communicate a companies identity quickly and easily. The money you can earn from logo designs varies wildly. Here's a good example of the cost of different logos.

Why might a company spend millions on a logo? Because of the science behind how a logo may make people feel. For example, a round logo might evoke associations related to “softness,” including perceptions that a company is caring, warm, and sensitive to customer needs.

The logo for Beats by Dre is pretty simple. The ‘b’ is enclosed in a circle followed by the brand name. The circle, though, isn’t just a circle. It actually represents a human’s head, and the ‘b’ letter form represents the brand’s headphones. This gives the brand a personal element, allowing a customer to see themselves in the headphones.

Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking for the internet, is named after its headquarters’ location in San Francisco. While its namesake doesn’t have a hidden meaning, the blue stripes above the logotype not only represent an electromagnet but also, the Golden Gate Bridge.

Gamecube’s logo is very interesting to look at, and for good reason. Not only is it a cube within a cube, but the outer cube forms a ‘G’ around the inner cube, leaving a ‘C’ in the negative space.

The FedEx logo, designed in 1994 by Linden Leader & Landor Associates, at first appears simple and straightforward. However, if you look at the white space between the "E" and "x" you can see a right-facing arrow. This "hidden" arrow was intended to be a subliminal symbol for speed and precision.

That yellow arrow is more than just a decorative swoosh. The Amazon logo was created to represent the message that it sells everything from A to Z (the arrow connects the two letters) and also represents the smile that customers would experience by shopping on the Amazon.com Web site (the arrow becomes a smile).
