Running Animation

By now you should have a basic understanding of how to create an animation in Photoshop. The next step is to use that understanding to create a walking character.

The video on the left explains how to make a walking character. It won't show you exactly how to do it in Photoshop, so you will have to apply what the video shows with what you learned in the previous lessons.

Start with a simple stick-man first. Once you get his walking movement to look nice you can try a more detailed character if you want.

For help with planning your animation try googling, "animated walk cycle".

Setup your new Photoshop document with these settings:

Width = 680
Height = 480
Color = RGB
Resolution = 72

When finished upload your animated GIF to your folder on the Google Drive.

One thing that can help you is to set up your document with some guides on the background, or a separate layer.

The image on the left shows 2 guides - one for the head and one for the feet. This will help you know where to draw the characters feet and head as they move (remember the head bobs up and down).

If needed you can add additional guides for the hands too.
