Classroom Rules
No food or drinks at the computers. You may only eat at the break table. Throw away your garbage when you're finished!
Be mature! You're in high school preparing for college or a career. Take it seriously and treat everyone with respect. Focus on your work and your behavior by not disrupting others.
No cellphones. Sorry, you are addicted to your phones and the new school policy prohibits phone use during school hours.
Clean up! This is a shared work space, and you must keep it clean. That means throwing away ANY trash around your work area, and putting away supplies you take out.
No swearing. There's a time and place for it, and this is neither the time nor the place for it.
Pay Attention. When someone is teaching you something focus on what they're doing. Even if you don't think it's important someone else does. Plus, it's just rude to whoever is talking/teaching.
listening to music
You may listen to music on a computer if you are working on an assignment and there is no class instruction happening. You must wear headphones!
Classroom Expectations
Ask questions. Have you tried everything you can think of? Ask your friends for help, ask the teacher for help. Don't give up and do nothing. Asking questions leads to answers.
Think. Are you stuck? Do you need help? Instead of giving up and doing nothing think of a solution and try it. Make mistakes and do it all wrong so you can do it better next time.
Come up with ideas. If you're thinking and asking questions you'll come up with ideas. The only bad ideas are the ones you never try.
Be self-directed. Do it on your own. Don't just give up and do nothing because it's hard or you don't know. Don't worry about doing it wrong. You always have a chance to fix it or improve it.
Grading
Grades are determined by a number of factors. The biggest is effort and growth. If you put in the effort to meet all the requirements of an assignment you will be okay. Do not miss turning in assignments - missing assignments are zeros in Infinite Campus and will significantly impact your overall grade. Always turn in something, even if you don't think you did a good job turn it in! You can email Mr. Walls at 10088103@k12.hi.us if you have any questions. Updated grades will be posted in Infinite Campus.
Carefully read the expectations for every assignment on this website. Many projects have examples, and these examples will usually show you what would be considered an A grade. Do your best to make something that looks like the example. Ask questions if you need help or the assignment is unclear.
You will have plenty of time in class to finish your assignments. Since most of the tools you need are in the classroom, there is no homework unless you get behind and start missing assignments. In addition, if you are unhappy with a grade ask for help and redo the assignment. Grades are never final until they have to be put on your quarter report cards.
And remember, you are students learning to do things you've never done before! It's okay if you don't like how something comes out. Just keep putting in the effort and you will get better.
“All things are difficult before they are easy.”
-Thomas Fuller
How does it look when you're graded on effort? This chart gives you an example of how your effort in class is graded. Green would be putting in the most effort, and red is very little or no effort. Green = A level work, Yellow = B or C level work, Orange = C or D level work, Red = F level work.
rules and expectations quiz
Click this link to take a quick quiz about all the stuff above! This is your first grade. If you do poorly you may re-take the quiz for a better grade.
Marooned!
Your group is traveling by boat when it suddenly runs aground on a reef! You swim to shore, and must use whatever you're carrying to help you survive.
Get into groups of at least 2, but no more than 5.
Each person in the group must choose 1 item that they are carrying to help the group survive.
You have 10 mins to choose your item and come up with an explanation of how it will help you survive.
Each person will explain how their item will help the group.
